Muzsla Panorama — Western Mátra
Our flagship: a half-day loop over Ágasvár, Mátrakeresztes and Muzsla peak — with the finest views of the western Mátra.
From the base we set off past the hill of the Cserter castle ruins, then climb to Ágasvár (9 km) — the main ascent of the tour. Below the rocky summit the Ágasvár hostel's buffet awaits, a perfect rest before we roll down through the Csörgő valley — past the Csörgő-lyuk cave and the ruins of an old watermill — to Mátrakeresztes.
From the village we climb a second time, past the Vidróczki Cave and the rock crevices of Vörös-kő-bérc, up to the Muzsla ridge (805 m): the route passes the Hétvezér rock formation with its fine view of the Zagyva valley. From there a long, delightful descent takes us through the Muzsla resort area down to Pásztó.
This tour shows best why we love the western Mátra: quiet forests, true mountain panoramas and barely any traffic.
